DOMINYK LEVER - PHOTOGRAPHER, GUIDE, & ADVENTURER

About Dom

Dominyk Lever (Dom) is a photographer, guide and adventurer based in Arusha, Tanzania. He was born in Zambia to Australian parents who were working in Lusaka in the early 1970’s. His long and abiding passion for photography began 38 years ago with a plastic camera when as a three-year-old, he set off with his parents on a yearlong, 30,000-mile overland journey from London to Nepal and back.

What started as an exploration of the world with a camera gradually gained momentum and he came to focus on wildlife and travel photography. In between completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology and studying for a Masters in Environmental Science, both at Sydney University, he trained and worked as a Safari Guide in Zambia’s premier National Park, South Luangwa.

Living and working in his adopted home of Tanzania for the past 15 years, Dom believes that photography is not based on technical skills alone; an understanding of a country’s culture, wildlife and a willingness to embrace challenges on a daily basis has been an integral part of the development of his photographer’s eye and his ability to capture the quintessential moment.

Complimenting his youthful adventures, Dom won the Yellowglen Australian Young Photographer of the Year award in 2001 for a series of photographs taken on the banks of the Ganges River at Varanasi in India.  In 2005, Dom opened the first photo gallery in Tanzania - the highly regarded Zoom Photo Gallery. His newest venture in the leafy suburbs of Arusha is a base from where he creates his PhotoArt and plans his upcoming adventures in Tanzania and beyond…
